Alternative Valuation Partners got its start over 30 years ago, as Guaranteed Real Estate Appraisals in Paoli, Pennsylvania. That was when the MLS was in books, cameras weren’t digital and GPS didn’t exist. We’ve come a long way since then and the changes aren’t just technological. We now have local offices in Philadelphia, Central Delaware and Southwest Florida. And we’ve changed our focus from dealing with big banks and appraisal management companies, to working directly with homeowners in our communities.

Banks look at a house and see collateral for a loan and a way to make money. But that house could be the home where your parents lived, where you brought up your kids, or where you want to retire. We understand that it’s a financial asset, but one that has important emotional ties. Our mission is to listen to what your needs are, assess the situation, and then provide an accurate and well explained appraisal that allows you to make informed decisions. And to do it with experienced appraisers who have in-depth knowledge and local expertise.

Scott Brown is one of the founding members of the company and is an epitome of appraisal knowledge. Certified, FHA & VA approved, a degree in Law and Real Estate Studies, and the list goes on. He was also a mentor to Robert and Patrick Shiflet, who head up the Delaware division. Robert and Patrick grew up in Magnolia, Delaware, literally next door to Scott. He can tell you all sorts of stories about them (my favorite is the chicken in the bathtub), but he’s proudest talking about how good they’ve become at appraising and making them partners in the firm. Knowing that he was leaving the Delaware division in good hands, Scott made the decision to stop being a “snow bird” and start living in Florida year-round. He now heads up the Fort Myers office and remains a knowledge source for the whole of the company.
